Life-sized Monopoly: disappointing

Posted in Thoughts and dreams on January 28th, 2007 by gavb – Be the first to comment

I played Monopoly last night, with Ash. Not in the traditional sense, but in the new full size, life size version of the game. We were team mates and we chose the car, which meant we could drive around the track in our car.

It wasn’t long before I realised that there weren’t actually any squares on this Monopoly board, more of just a racing track and that buying any property cards at this speed (and without stopping) was proving to be a nightmare! I suggested to Ash that we get out of the car and read the rules so that we can have more of an interactive, more Monopoly-style game.

On the way to the rule board we passed a shop selling ice creams and there was honestly the biggest chocolate ice cream I have ever seen in my whole life! Trust the Americans to have ice cream as large as this (oh yeh, we were in America).

We got to the board where the rules were and gave them a good read – turned out that we had to stop at each checkpoint and play silly little games – I personally don’t think this game was based on Monopoly at all.

We decided to pay the man (we hadn’t paid anything until that point) and he just made up the price. I paid £3.50, then he said I could go in for free, then it was $3.50. He was a cheeky man, and I was convinced that this was a free public service attraction and that he was blatantly pocketing everyone’s money.

Anyway, we paid and I went to get my camera as I thought that there would be some really good photo opportunities during the day. That was a waste of time, however, as the day never happened at all and I got sent to some cliffs where men with black umbrellas were jumping off into the sea. They were crazy and I thought to myself that you would never catch me doing shit as crazy as that! I don’t know if they lived or died. The cliff was massive, so I hope for their sake the umbrellas held out. I don’t know what happened to Ash, I think he stayed in the rubbish Monopoly game that wasn’t really Monopoly.

They were selling big axes in Aldi yesterday.

The most gayest bands in the whole wide world

Posted in Thoughts and dreams on January 25th, 2007 by gavb – 1 Comment

I just got sent a link to this website, which contains a list of what they believe to be the most gay bands (in the eyes of the Lord of course).

This list includes the likes of The DoorsQueenThe StrokesMetallicaThe Rolling StonesDavid BowieMadonnaElton JohnNirvanaThe KillersLou Reed, and theRed Hot Chili Peppers.

The ‘safe bands‘ page, however, consists solely of the follwing: UnderOath, Cyndi Lauper, Falling Up, Flyleaf, The Turning, Disciple, P.O.D, By The Tree, Scott Reed, Michael W. Smith, Jars of Clay, DC Talk, and Danielson. Not only have I never heard of any of these bands (apart from the ever popular gay icon Miss Lauper of course), but the list of ’safe’ bands does appear to be a rather limited one. Not exactly the best record collection in the world either.

I think I will stick to my ‘gay’ bands in the future. Gay is the new black it seems.

The best part of the site is the quote on every page:

“Suffering is one very long moment. We cannot divide it by seasons. We can only record its moods, and chronicle their return. With us time itself does not progress. It revolves. It seems to circle round one centre of pain.”
– Oscar Wilde (reformed homosexual)

I am an award-winning director :-)

Yeh yeh, I know I’m bragging now, but I am so chuffed to bits about it!

Our documentary, Gagging for Sex, won ‘Best Factual Programme’ at the Royal Television Society Awards last night. The whole night was amazing – the fact that we had two of our films nominated (apparently we were the first crew to have ahcieved this), meant we had a good chance of at least getting commended, but we always knew it wasn’t definite… when they announced the results I couldn’t believe it. Going onto that stage to collect our awards was an experience I doubt I will ever forget.

It’s bloody cold here!!

I don’t think I’ve ever been this cold in my life; if you’re outside for about five minutes, and you breathe through your nose, your snot freezes and then flaps over your nostrils and feels funny. Can’t really explain that any better, but needless to say, it’s VERY cold here.

Check out this article on CBC (Canada’s BBC) about how some parts of BC have gotten as low as -41c. I’m wrapping up warm though, so all I have is a cold nose and red cheeks.
